WATER TREADMILL

The buoyancy of water provides a virtually weightless environment in our water treadmill. Your pet is able to perform the most physiologically useful exercise (walking) with minimal stress on joints and bones. Arthritic and obese dogs can strengthen muscles, tendons and ligaments without risking further damage to their joints. Walking against the resistance of water also increases the rate at which calories are burned and muscles strengthened.

Our water treadmill and pool are both maintained at a temperature of 87 degrees. This temperature is warm enough to improve circulation and provide other physiologic benefits, but not hot enough to increase fatigue or cause overheating. The incline of the treadmill can be raised and lowered to shift weight for maximum benefit. The clear plexiglas side allows doctors and staff to evaluate gait and performance and to videographically record a patient's progress.

The treadmill's water level can be adjusted to regulate weight on limbs from 80 to 20 percent of the bodie's dry weight. The speed of the water treadmill is carefully controlled to within one tenth of one mile per hour. Dogs are monitored by an attendant at all times in the water treadmill.
