POST SURGICAL RECOVERY
None of us would think of having knee, back, hip or any orthopedic surgery without some form of rehabilitation therapy. We know that our recovery will probably be faster and that our level of function, once we are healed, will be better. The same is true for your pet. Any patient having a surgery that involves muscles of locomotion or bones is a candidate for rehabilitation therapy. Some of the more common surgical procedures that benefit from therapy are; knee surgery such as cranial cruciate repair( TPLO, TTA or extracapsular repair), hip surgery-either a FHO or a hip replacement, back surgery for disc disease, elbow surgery for elbow dysplasia and fracture repair. With the money and effort invested in these procedures rehabilitation therapy has to potential to improve the likelihood of a successful outcome.
Using the knowledge gained in over thirty years of veterinary practice we have a comprehensive understanding of these surgical procedures, thereby enabling us to determine what is an appropriate activity for a patient during the various stages of the healing process. Rehabilitation therapy at Healing Touch allows the post surgical patient the opportunity to exercise in a supervised environment following a program designed to strengthen weakened tissues but still protect tissues that have not yet completely healed. Healing Touch also has the equipment necessary to provide low stress and low impact exercise that is so important in protecting healing tissues. Our heated indoor swimming pool and underwater treadmill are essential in providing this safe exercise experience.
