Acupuncture and Massage have both been used in the treatment of humans for thousands of years. Acupuncture is equally effective for pain relief in animals, and has been used for centuries within the tradition of Chinese medicine. Massage is used on canine patients to promote healing, alleviate stress, and enhance physical conditioning. The staff at Healing Touch has extensive training and certification in the application of these two techniques to dogs.
Active exercise is a critical aspect of complete canine rehabilitation and restoring patients to normal function. In addition to other equipment, Healing Touch offers a dry treadmill, cavaletti rails, and stair training for rehabilitation. These and the aquatic exercise options may also be used for conditioning in healthy dogs.
Healing Touch also offers passive exercise for disabled and recovering canines. Exercise balls and wobble boards are used to aid balance, proprioception, and strengthening during rehabilitation or therapy. Stretching exercises may be utilized in conjunction with thermal modalities (ultrasound or heat packs). Neuromuscular reprogramming is used to retrain disabled animals in the use of their limbs.
